1912 – 2003

LEWISTON – Margaret E. Liberty, 90, died at Central Maine Medical Center on Aug. 8. She was born in Haverhill, Mass., in 1912, the daughter of Somerby C. Follansbee and Florence M. Carlton.

After graduating from Haverhill High School, she continued her education at the Hale Hospital School of Nursing, becoming an registered nurse in 1934. She practiced as a nurse in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Earlier she was an active volunteer for the Red Cross, the High Street Congregational Church Fairs, Central Maine Medical Center coffee shop and various other organizations. She was a resident of Auburn for nearly 50 years, residing at 26 Linden St. for many of those years. Most recently, she was a resident of Clover Manor.

Her husband, Frederick P. Liberty, died in 1963. She is survived by three children, Frederick P. “Butch” Liberty of Auburn, Gail N. Liberty of San Antonio, and Normand P. “Skip” Liberty and his wife Judith of Yarmouth; two grandchildren, Frederick P. “Rick” Liberty of Seattle, and Lisa Liberty Becker and her husband Robert of Waltham, Mass.; and one great-grandchild, True Liberty Becker of Waltham.
