1922 – 2003

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – Emerson R. Farmer, “Bub,” 81, of E. Freetown, Mass., died Saturday, Aug 9, at St. Luke’s Hospital.

He was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Wilton the son of Herbert and Malleville (Bangs) Farmer. He was educated in the schools of Wilton and Temple and graduated from Farmington High School in 1940.

He worked as a Merchant Marine serving his country during World War II. He married Muriel Cushman in Wilton in 1942.

After the war he worked for John Richards Corp. woolen mill in Freetown, Mass., then in 1957 he went into the respiratory therapy field, eventually becoming the Supervisor of Respiratory Therapy at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of Quittacus Lodge AF&AM in New Bedford. He enjoyed wood carving, antique dealing, hunting and fishing at Varnum Pond in Temple.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Muriel of New Bedford Mass.; a son, Richard E. and his wife Donna of Lake Wylie, S.C.; a grandson, Ryan B. Farmer of Lakeville, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by four sisters, Berle Farmer Savage, Muriel Farmer Ellis, Lucy Farmer Sawyer, and Mildred Farmer Maxwell; three brothers, Ellery, V. Thaxter and Rupert Farmer.
