1939 – 2003

LEWISTON – Lauren Robert Libby, 64, a resident of Blake Street in Lewiston, died Sunday, Aug. 10, at St. Mary’s Hospital following a brief battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Greene on March 26, 1939, the son of Clyde S. and Laura E. Foster Libby. He attended the grammar schools of Greene and Leavitt High School.

He served in the Army National Guard from 1957 to 1963. On June 22, 1963 he married Susan Wanda Grover in Monmouth. She passed away on Dec. 1, 1997.

He had worked for Hillcrest Poultry, area shoe shops and most recently at Denny’s Restaurant. He was a CB radio enthusiast and an avid Red Sox fan.

He is survived by his father of Greene; a brother, Joe Libby and his wife Sandra of Leeds; six sisters, Marilyn Ward and her friend, Spike Libby of North Carolina, Edie Duprey and her husband Louis of Greene, Mary Libby and her friend David of Mechanic Falls, Doris Wagner and her husband Donald of Portland, Ore., Flossie Obie and her husband Alfred of Lowell, Mass., Gail Libby and her companion, Donna of Louisville, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Susan in 1997; his mother in 1986; and a nephew, Michael Drost in 1987.
