LEWISTON – Police who responded to a reported fight on Horton Street Wednesday night found a teen-ager bleeding from a knife wound to the face.

The 16-year-old was being treated at Central Maine Medical Center late Wednesday while police investigated the assault.

Police said the teen was stabbed in the cheek shortly after 8 p.m. The wound did not appear to be life-threatening.

Officers arrived in front of 130 Horton St. at about 8:15 p.m. to find the victim bleeding from his injury. Police had received a report of a brawl in that area.

The victim told investigators he went outside and was assaulted by a group of people in the street. A motive for the attack was not known Wednesday night.

“At this point, he’s telling us he has no idea who the assailants were,” said police Lt. Tom Avery.

The teen was still being evaluated at CMMC late Wednesday night.
