1920 – 2003

BANGOR – Kathleen Lancaster Morin, 82, died Aug. 9, at a local nursing home.

She was born Aug. 23, 1920, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Ethel and Jesse Lancaster of Washburn. She graduated from Washburn High School and from Aurora College in Aurora, Ill. She received her master of education degree from the University of Maine in Orono in 1956.

She was a high school teacher for 23 years-teaching in Calais, Houlton, Washburn and Lewiston high schools. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Auburn. She was a former member of the Lewiston-Auburn Little Theater, the Community Concert Association, the Lewiston Teacher’s Association, the National Teacher’s Association, and Lewiston and Auburn Teacher’s Society Delta Kappa Gamma.

She served on the Androscoggin Cancer board for several years. She was a member and president of the Lewiston-Auburn Kiwanians’. She was a life member of the Women’s Hospital Association of CMMC and the Lewiston-Auburn Young Women’s Christian Association. She was a member of the Woman’s Literary Union and the Androscoggin County Retired Teachers’ Society.

She was a member of the Portland Art Museum and a member of the Prospect Golf Club. In 1965, she married Rower J. Morin, a prominent Auburn businessman. They were married for 31 years and enjoyed life together; summers were spent at their camp (Karowi) at No Name Pond in Lewiston where they had many fun gatherings with family and friends.

She had a love for learning and wanted to experience as many different things in her life as she could. One thing she loved was travel; she traveled to many countries in her life, and she and her husband spent several winters in Florida.

She also enjoyed skiing, golf, playing bridge and reading. After losing her husband and suffering some serious health problems, she moved to Bangor three years ago to be close to her sister, niece, and other family members. She lived at Boyd Place and attended All Souls Congregational Church with her family.

Surviving are her two sisters, Ruth L. Washburn of Bangor and Bette Miller of Valdosta, Ga.; a niece and her husband, Pam Coffey-Paine and Tom Paine of Hampden; a nephew, George F. Washburn Jr. of Rutland, Vt.; a niece and nephew of Odessa, Fla., Shelley Hatcher and Douglas Miller; a neice, Kathy Williams of Dexter, Ga.; her stepdaughter and her husband, Jeannine and James Betsch of Auburn; and five stepgrandchildren.
