1913 – 2003
LEWISTON – Roger A. LaBrecque, 89, formerly of 66 Farwell St., Lewiston, died Sunday, Aug. 17, at the d’Youville Pavilion Nursing Home, following a long illness.
Born in Lewiston on Nov. 16, 1913, he was the son of Ferdinand and Florida Pelchat LaBrecque. Educated locally, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. During the war, he was stationed in Paris, France, and attended the Sorbonne University.
A well respected local businessman, he was the owner of the LaBrecque’s Variety Store on Lincoln Street from 1936 to 1956, and then owned Dube’s Flower Shop from 1956 to 1970.
In 1937, he was married to the former Regina Giguere, who passed away on Aug. 15. An avid golfer, he was a former member of both the Fairlawn and Martindale Country clubs, and was also a member of the Elks Club, American Legion Post 22, the Musical Literary Club, and the Maine Florist Association.
In 1974, he served as the Androscoggin County Chairman of George Mitchell’s campaign for governor.
Survivors include a nephew and godchild, Richard LaBrecque of Lewiston; two nieces, Sue Dubois and Diane Doyon both of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Stella LaBrecque of Lewiston; godchildren, Celeste Voyles of Gladstone, MO., and Roger Martineau of Sabattus; and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Bertrand; and a sister, Irene Paradis.
