MONMOUTH – More than 200 Monmouth Academy alumni and friends filled the school’s gym on Aug. 2 to help celebrate the school’s 200th anniversary.
The event was planned by officers and friends of the academy Alumni Association, which has been meeting annually for more than 100 years.
Following a luncheon, prizes and election of officers, a 200-year history of Monmouth Academy was sold. The history was researched and compiled by Phyllis Foster Hill, class of 1944, who served many years as secretary of the association as well as the academy’s board of trustees.
Officers re-elected were Blaine Plummer, president; Noella True Safford, vice president; Nancy Bates Ludewig, recording secretary; Joyce Riggs Knight, corresponding secretary; and James Chick, treasurer.
Also addressing the group were the new principal of Monmouth Academy, Michael Burnham; the new superintendent of schools, Stephen Cottrell; and president of the class of 1953, William Pollard.
