SACO – After three days of play at the Biddeford-Saco Country Club, John Jamgochian of Connecticut was the only player under par as he led his team to the New England Junior Championship title Tuesday.

Jamgochian’s final round of 71 was the low score of the day, putting him at 2-under par for the tournament and nine shots ahead of second-place individual finisher Sam Chud of Massachusetts.

Joining Jamgochian on the winning team were Masayuki Kobayashi, (76-73-75–224), KJ Camera (70-75-80-225), Brent Paladino (76-77-72-225), Evan Beirne (73-76-79-228), Scott Cruff (78-85-75-238) and Kyle Morris (89-82-83-254).

With the format as the best-five-of-seven scores for each round, Connecticut totaled 1,108 points to beat out second-place Massachusetts, which finished at 1,124.

In third place, New Hampshire finished ahead of Maine, the defending champions, 1,137-1,143, while Rhode Island and Vermont rounded out the team competition with scores of 1,168 and 1,172 respectively.

The tournament, which was hosted by BSCC and Maine, is conducted annually as one of three championships of the New England Golf Association. Next year’s junior championship will be hosted by New Hampshire.
