RUMFORD – A collision late Tuesday afternoon sent one person to the hospital and caused about $5,000 damage to the two vehicles.

Rumford Officer Dan Garbarini said Evelyn Hotham, 70, of Rumford was attempting to cross from the South Rumford Road intersection with Route 2 atop Falls Hill to Prospect Avenue. She apparently did not see the 1994 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Sherbourne Noyes, 53, of Bryant Pond, who was traveling west.

Noyes’ truck struck the passenger side of the 1996 Buick sedan driven by Hotham, causing at least $2,500 damage. Garbarini estimated the damage to the bumper and hood of the truck at about $2,000.

Noyes complained of lower back pain and was transported to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance where he was treated and released. Hotham was not hurt.

Both drivers were alone and were wearing safety belts.

Garbarini was assisted by Officer James Bernard. Members of the Rumford Fire Department were also at the scene. The accident site was cleared in less than an hour.
