FALMOUTH – The Sea Strokes Chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters will sponsor an auction of hand-painted items for the home at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Woodlands Club, 39 Woods Road.

There will be a silent auction and deli buffet followed by a live auction of the larger pieces. The chapter is raising funds for the Memory Box Program and continuing education classes for the chapter. All pieces will be painted and donated by the chapter members.

The program is a national program that donates Memory Boxes to hospitals across the country and to the armed forces hospitals in other countries. The boxes are given to families whose babies die before, during or after birth while in the hospital in order to have something in which to bring their memories home, such as birth certificate, footprints, pictures, locks of hair, clothing and blanket.

The chapter buys the boxes and provides funding for shipping them. Some of the items being auctioned are antique ironing boards, benches, a table with large pansies, sleighs, windows and chairs, all with decorative painting. For tickets or information, contact Auction Chairwoman Judy Giffin at 783-4875 or Jeanette Barriault at 783-4873.
