OXFORD – Mike Ballard won twice in one night in the Outlaw Division and Greg Norton collected his fifth win of the season as the Big Apple Summer Racing Series continued at Oxford Plains Speedway Wednesday night.

Ballard had a chance as an extra Outlaw feature was schedule to make up for a lightning-shortened program two weeks ago.

Ballard, Joe Giroix, Jay Wilkins, and Randy Robitalle took the checkered flag for the evenings Outlaw features.

Ballard took control of a chaotic makeup Outlaw feature to win his second of the summer.

Three different drivers led the first half of the race as Todd Truman carried the torch first. Erik Drew led three laps and Tom Averill found himself at the top of the leaderboard after a yellow came out on lap 10.

Ballard took control as soon as the green flag flew and never looked back. Glenn Henderson fell in behind Ballard for the final few laps to finish second.

Ballard made it a daily-double with a win his regularly scheduled feature later in the evening.

Most of the race belonged to Dale Reno in the No. 95 car as he ran away with the first 15 Laps. He went wide, however, on turn three allowing Kevin Plummer to sneak past.

Reno recovered to post a third-place finish. Ballard was hanging in second and just beat out Plummer for the win.

The rookie Giroix led wire-to-wire, starting on the front row, to win his first feature.

Giroix survived lapped traffic as early as lap five and one restart.

More importantly, Giroix survived the never-ended onslaught by veteran Skip Douglass, Jr.

Douglass fell into second place on Lap 3 and never allowed Giroix to get comfortable. Gary Mosher moved into third late and finished in that spot.

Jay Wilkins picked up his second win of the season and he may owe a debt of thanks to Dennis Morang for it.

On lap 7 and Chuck Truman in control, Morang decided in the middle of turn three to to let Truman know he was there. The solid tap from behind spun out the No. 555 car and opened the gate for Wilkins to move in front. He never trailed again.

Robitalle fought off challenges from Rick Stone and Steve Brill to capture his second win of the season in the top Outlaw feature.

Starting on the pole, he never had to follow anyone.

Jodee Constantino picked up her second win of the 2003 season with a strong win in the Ladies feature.

Cherie Garnett started strong moving from the third row to the lead after one lap. Garnett held onto the lead till a caution at the midpoint of the race.

Constantino, who came out of the caution in third, was in front the next time around fought off all challengers.

Wade Brown, Matt Frechette, Doug Degroat, and Greg Norton all took home wins in the Runnin’ Rebel Division.

Brown took all the suspense out of the first Runnin’ Rebel feature picking up win number one.

The No. 20 car started seventh on the grid and quickly moved to the front.

For the final third of the race it was Brian Beaulieu in second as the pair held a big lead over the rest of the pack.

Beaulieu used lapped traffic to slow the leader but he could not completely close the distance.

Frechette outlasted all other competitors for his first-ever win.

It was a tight contest with the top five cars nose to tail for most of the second half of the race.

Frechette led all but the first lap of the 20-Lap event.

Doug Degroat won the battle of attrition in his feature as it took three times to get a green flag lap at the start of the race. For Degroat it was his first win of the season.

Degroat took control on lap 18 when he got past Jason Cummings who had all but the first three laps.

Norton was the only repeat winner in Runnin’ Rebels recording his fifth of the season.

The No. 119 car laid low throughout, moving into second place on lap 13.

Early on it was Bob Danforth that led the pack and his lead was sizeable until a caution on lap 10 tightened the field. Danforth finished fourth.

Adam Polvinin came out the restart with the lead, but a wide turn on lap 17 opened the door for Norton. He crossed the line second but was disqualified in the postrace inspection.

Dave Sullivan used lapped traffic as well as the last 20 yards of the track to win his third race of the season in the Sport Truck Division. The battle between Sullivan, John Batchelder, and Paul Fearon provided about the best excitement for the night.

Fearon came out on top in the early laps but a caution on Lap 5 gave Batchelder the opportunity to take control. Batchelder led seven laps before Sullivan took it away for one lap.

Batchelder then held the point until the race’s final feet. He finished second.
