I think I read somewhere that Lewiston took down the buildings on the corner of Lincoln and Main Street so the Gateway to Lewiston would look nice for people entering the city from Auburn.

Let me see if I remember what I read and heard. They took over two business that were in the building and made them move. One a pizza parlor and the other a tattoo parlor. Not a good sight for people entering the city of Lewiston. They then tore down the buildings to expose the Old Mill behind them.

I guess at some point the Old Mill will be redone and look nice. So now every morning when I drive to work I can look at an empty parking lot. That’s OK. I live in Auburn and only see it on the way to work.

Now this is the part that I don’t quite understand. They wanted the city to look good? Then why during the weeks when most people from out of town visit Lewiston, events like the Maine State Parade, Festival Week and the Balloon Festival, do they let the carnival put up their rides in that empty parking lot? What a great memory people visiting Lewiston must have.

It’s a good thing they don’t have to look at a pizza parlor and a tattoo parlor. Maybe Auburn should tear down some buildings so we can be remembered as the city with the carnival rides.
