I thought the article “Caught up in Cycles” did a great disservice to the women that I know who ride motorcycles. (Aug. 17)
“Take the drivers seat on their own choppers?” Please! The women that I know who ride wouldn’t be caught dead on a “chopper.” The Sun Journal missed a section of women that instead of riding “parade bikes” ride touring, dirt and sport bikes.
Instead of wearing leather and headbands, they wear jackets with armor and $500 helmets because they know that there are two types of riders. Those that have crashed and those that probably will and you’re a lot better off being prepared for the worst.
They book track days where they can take their bikes to a track and hone their riding skills in an environment free from cars and critters so when something does go wrong, they have the skills to avoid problems.
There are a lot more to the women that are riding motorcycles today than you portrayed. Keep up the motorcycle articles, but please do a little more research next time. To all the women out there that ride, welcome to the sport and ride safe.
