ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Lions cornerback Chris Cash likely is out for the season after injuring two ligaments in his left knee.

Cash injured the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in Detroit’s 38-17 win against Cleveland on Saturday night.

Detroit was counting on Cash to be a starter, opposite Dre’ Bly, following his solid rookie season.

Bly hasn’t played an exhibition game this year because of an ankle injury.

Cash, a sixth-round pick out of Southern California, started 12 of Detroit’s final 14 games last year and had one interception.

He finished second on the team with 117 tackles.

Andre Goodman, who had a lackluster rookie season last year and has been beaten often during this preseason, likely will be moved into Cash’s spot in the starting lineup.

Titans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee tight end Frank Wycheck will get a second opinion on his latest concussion.

Wycheck’s had at least four concussions in the NFL, and his latest on Aug. 16 left him briefly unconscious. He didn’t play Saturday night in a 23-15 victory over Cincinnati, and coach Jeff Fisher said Sunday he won’t play Thursday night at Green Bay.

“If it was a regular-season game, he could play,” Fisher said. “But I want him to be more comfortable with practice, and I think he’s got a second opinion scheduled. He can’t get in to see the specialist until Wednesday.”

The 10-year veteran is just 12 catches away from becoming the fourth tight end in NFL history with 500 career receptions. Wycheck said he’s making gradual progress and plans to be very smart with his approach.

“With this type of injury, you want to get a second opinion. You want to wait until things calm down, and I feel it’s the best decision for me,” he said. “Coach Fisher and (general manager) Floyd Reese have given me their support and said that I could do whatever I felt was comfortable for myself.”

Rams

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Rams rookie wide receiver Kevin Curtis will be out four-to-six weeks with a broken leg.

Curtis was injured Saturday night against Buffalo in the fourth quarter.

Curtis had been impressive in training camp, winning a spot in the receiving rotation.

“It’s a shame,” coach Mike Martz said Sunday. “He was having such a terrific preseason and had been playing so well.”

The news was better about linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa, the team’s second-round pick who sprained an ankle against the Bills. Martz said the injury was mild and that Tinoisamoa, a starter on the outside, could play in the preseason finale Thursday night against Kansas City.

Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The New York Giants are so concerned about the tendinitis that Ryan Kuehl has developed in his right elbow that they may have to sign another long snapper this week.

Doctors have told the team it is uncertain when the inflammation will subside.

“Any time you have to calm the swelling on a nerve and the pinching of a nerve, nobody can really tell you,” coach Jim Fassel said. “It’s not like a bone (which) takes six-to-eight weeks to heal. This is very unpredictable.”

New York went through four snappers last season. It lost the wild-card playoff game to San Francisco because Trey Junkin had two bad snaps on fourth-quarter field goal attempts, the last one on the final play in a 39-38 loss.

Kuehl noticed the a tightness in his elbow leading up to the second preseason game (Aug. 15). He snapped against Carolina, but Fassel held him out of practice last week and intended not to play him against the Jets.

But Kuehl was forced to snap when center Chris Bober bruised his ribs and linebacker Nick Greisen pulled a hamstring.

Vikings

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – Running back Doug Chapman will be out about two weeks with a high right ankle sprain, leaving the Vikings’ already banged-up backfield with one less rusher for their season opener against Green Bay.

The Vikings, who close out the preseason this week against Arizona, are already without Michael Bennett. Chapman, who was listed as the starter, injured his ankle in Friday’s exhibition win over Oakland.

Veteran Moe Williams, the team’s third-down back, will start Minnesota’s season opener Sept. 7 against the Packers, head coach Mike Tice said Sunday. But rookie Onterrio Smith, who has impressed coaches in training camp, could see some early action as well.
