Jay and Farmington selectmen will meet separately Tuesday to set the tax rate for each town. While Jay’s rate is anticipated to remain stable, Farmington’s rate is expected to increase.

Jay selectmen have called a special meeting for 10 a.m. at the Community Building to set the rate.

Jay’s existing rate is $15.80 per $1,000 of property valuation. Town Manager Ruth Marden said she is optimistic the new rate will remain about the same.

Farmington selectmen are to meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Farmington Municipal Building to set the rate.

Farmington Town Manager Richard Davis said selectmen would be looking to increase moderately the existing rate of $17.85 per $1,000 of valuation. Though Davis declined to reveal the proposed tax rate until after selectmen discuss it, he did note that the increase was because Franklin County and SAD 9 budgets increased and the town’s non-property tax revenues slightly decreased.
