RUMFORD – A benefit dance will be held Saturday for Justin Flaherty to help with medical expenses. The event is from 5 to 11 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Sons of Italy hall. Music will be provided by D.J. Veterans services

RUMFORD – The Veterans’ Service Officer will visit this area each month on the second and fourth Thursday, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the Career Center on Congress Street. This service is available to help Maine veterans, their dependents and survivors to apply for both state and VA benefits.

Support group

RUMFORD – A support group for those with brain injuries, their families and friends will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month at Rumford Hospital’s conference room A. The next meeting is Sept. 2. For more information phone Debbie Hanmer at 562-9260.

Blood drive

MEXICO – A blood drive will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Wal-Mart. Due to limited space on the American Red Cross mobile bus, donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment with Cheryl Doughty of Wal-Mart by phoning 364-2557. Because appointments will be honored, walk-ins will only be taken if space is available. All donors are asked to bring either a government-issued picture ID or their Red Cross Blood Donor card.
