OTISFIELD – Dave Hankins invited selectmen Wednesday to a Thompson Lake Youth Conservation Corps site tour Sept. 20.

“We’ve scheduled an informational tour for municipal officials,” the Thompson Lake Environmental Association member told the board at its meeting Wednesday. The tour offers the opportunity to see what the corps is about and what they’ve done, Hankins said.

The corps was funded through a grant from the federal Environmental Protection Agency for the past two summers. In March Otisfield voters approved $5,000 for the corps.

The work was on erosion control in the Thompson Lake watershed. The watershed area is in Casco, Oxford, Otisfield and Poland. All of the watershed communities approved funding to continue the program into 2004.

In addition to town officials, Hankins invited residents and all interested parties to see how the efforts of the corps are protecting this watershed.

“We’d like to see a good turnout from Otisfield because a lot of the work that was done was done in Otisfield,” association member Jim Bishop said.

The tour is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. Transportation is provided and anyone interested needs to reserve a seat by calling the TLEA office at 539-4535 and leaving a message for corps coordinator Jeff Hackett.
