LEWISTON – The Yellowstone Adventure started for three local sixth-graders on Aug. 2 as they joined 23 other boys and girls from Maine and New Hampshire to study the nature and geology of Yellowstone National Park. Making the 13-day trip were Toni Tempesta of Auburn, Ryan Landry and Patrick Smith of Lewiston.

These student ambassadors are participating in People to People, an educational exploration program founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower. The program gives people an opportunity to explore their world through an educational journey plus make new friendships. The People to People programs offer adventures all over the world to thousands of young people.

Three Maine teachers are delegation leaders for the trip: Jane Willett of Gorham, a teacher at Massabesic High School in Waterboro; Andrea Varricchoine of Westbrook, also a teacher at Massabesic High School; and Scott Stevens of Durham and an Etep at Narragansett and Shaw Schools in Gorham.

The group started their adventure in Bozeman, Mont. Students will go on nature hikes, sightseeing at Old Faithful, white water rafting, canoeing and will learn to fly cast.
