FARMINGTON – A family fun day, chicken barbecue and square dance are being planned for Saturday, Sept. 6, to benefit the Sullivan Family who lost their home in Temple to a devastating fire on Aug. 13.

All events will take place at the Elks Lodge in West Farmington. The event is being planned by the employees of Franklin Community Health Network.

The family fun day will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will include pickup volleyball and softball games, live entertainment, horseshoe and cribbage tournaments with cash prizes and more.

A silent auction with items such as skis, gift certificates and crafts will also take place at this time.

A local group Native Oak will provide music at 2 p.m. under the big tent. Hospital employees Randy Gauvin and Bill Colwell along with trustee Paul Soucy make up this musical ensemble.

The horseshoe tournament will begin at 2 p.m. while a cribbage tournament is slated for 6 p.m. The registration fee for each is $5 per person. The tournament winners will split the proceeds with the benefit fund.

A chicken barbecue will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The cost for the meal is $8 adults, $4 children ages 5 to 12 and free for children under age 5.

The fun will wrap up with a square dance for adults from 7:30 to 10 p.m. The cost for the dance is $5 per person.

According to Kathie Greear, one of the event’s organizers, advanced tickets are recommended for the barbecue and dance and may be purchased in the hospital’s cardiopulmonary department.

Ben and Michelle Sullivan are employees of Franklin Memorial Hospital and Pine Tree Pediatrics, respectively. They are the parents of two young sons, Sean and Garrett.
