1923 – 2003

LEWISTON – Herbert G. Libby, 80, of Norway passed away peacefully Saturday at Central Maine Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Greenwood, June 27, 1923. He always had a love for the outdoors, spending much of his time camping and fishing with family and friends. He also had a soft spot in his heart for animals, even though he did not like to admit it.

He was proud to be a decorated Army combat veteran of World War II, having received numerous medals, including the Purple Heart. A war injury left him disabled, but he never shied away from his responsibilities to his family, working many years for Wilner Wood Products in Norway.

After retiring, he invested more of his time in Beano, making friends at every hall. One could often hear his giggle above the crowd. Those close to him knew his generous heart well. He would never let a need go unmet.

He was predeceased by his lifelong companion Louise M. Dustin on November 22, 1998. They enjoyed many happy years together in Otisfield.

Survivors include a son Roy of San Diego, Calif., a daughter Linda Valentine of Utah, a stepson Lewis Dustin of Oxford, stepdaughters Linda D. Foster of Oxford, Lottie Dustin-Howes of Ware, Mass., Lorraine D. Perez of Leominster, Mass. Lynn D. Lavoie of Lisbon and Louann Dustin-Hunter of Brunswick, two brothers James of Wiscasset and David of Washington State. He will also be missed by his 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers Edward and Howard and sister Mabel and Bessey.
