LIVERMORE FALLS – Town Manager Alan Gove is still on personal leave, Chairman Bill Demaray said at Tuesday’s selectmen’s meeting. Gove hasn’t been on duty in the office since late July as he was on vacation the week of Aug. 4 and on personal leave since then.

Treasurer Kristal Flagg and Clerk Faith Nichols are trying to run the office, Demaray said, and they contact him, if he is needed.

Since the board is trying to operate without a manager, they agreed Tuesday night that, if Gove is still on leave at the next meeting, they should have the department heads attend to report on how things are going.

“There’s no communication at the moment,” said Selectwoman Doreen Maheux.

The board will also invite members of the Dispatch Committee, Maxine Bailey, Tom DuBois, Palmer Hebert and Kevin Morrissey, to attend the Sept. 15 meeting so that committee can begin its work.

Two citizens will be contacted about their interest in serving on the Channel 7 Public Access TV committee.

Selectmen reviewed figures relative to the tax commitment but did not set the tax rate as they need additional figures that Flagg will work on Wednesday.

They will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to set the rate that they hope to hold at $23.80 per thousand, just under this year’s 24 mills rate.

Following an executive session at the close of the meeting, the board returned to open session and voted to accept the resignation of Ralph Black from the highway crew, effective Jan. 3.

In other business, residents of Rambling Rose Trailer Park asked about a light on their street but were told it would be up to the park owner to put in the light as those streets are private property, not owned by the town.

Repairs are being done to the sidewalk on Cargill Street, reported Highway Foreman Denis Castonguay. He also reported on the progress of repairs from the water line work done last year.

The board accepted the $8,656 bid for the property at 90 Main St. as the check had come in, approved the application for a grant with U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Gulf Island grant application.

They also agreed to forgive charges made to Wes Bowen for an advertisement for a public hearing as it had been based on misinformation.
