LIVERMORE FALLS – SAD 36-Jay Adult and Community Education’s fall semester begins on Monday, Sept. 8, and continues until Christmas.
Two science courses will be offered for the first time this fall. Dr. Robbin Nichol will teach a course called electronics on Tuesday evenings. The electronics course will introduce the practical aspects of electronics with a little theory thrown in. Students will learn about electricity, electronic components, soldering and computers.
Director Malcolm Haynes will offer a course in astronomy on Thursday evenings. Participants do not need their own telescope for this course.
During the month of September, several multi-session classes will begin. These include beginning computers, keyboarding, Microsoft Word, your new photo album and Microsoft Excel. These classes will meet on a weekly basis at Jay High School.
Other classes will meet once on Fridays or Saturdays for 3 to 6 hour sessions. These include a shortened version of Microsoft Word on Sept. 27, Microsoft Access on Dec. 13, Microsoft Excel on Oct. 18 and Web Page Design on Nov. 22.
Requests for other computer classes will be considered and may be offered depending on the number of interested students.
All classes offered are available to all adults. The courses are designated as diploma, vocational or enrichment as a convenience to state reporting procedures.
A complete listing of all courses were included in a brochure that was mailed to all Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls addresses in August. Brochures are also available in commercial locations around the three town area.
Leeann LaFleur will offer a course in photography beginning on Sept. 18. This is a new course and will include seeing and using light, composition and technique.
A Maine driving dynamics course will be offered. This course is a two-evening course offered by representatives of the state. Students who successfully complete the two evening course will receive 3 credits on the state of Maine drivers record.
The course will be offered twice during this fall semester, once on Oct. 21 and 23 and once on Dec. 9 and 11.
Registration for any course may be done by calling the Adult Learning Center at 897-6384 on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
