ANDOVER – The Ellis River Riders will hold an open horse show starting at 9 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 7, on the Airport Road. The event takes place rain or shine.

Perham program

CANTON – Joe Perham Live will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Bradbury Memorial Chapel on Canton Point Road.

Society picnic

MEXICO – The Acadian Society invites members and guests, including all members of the conversational French classes, to their annual picnic at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Mexico Recreation Park. Bring a hot dish, salad or dessert.

WOODSTOCK – Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council Telstar Service Unit will hold two sign-up sessions. The first will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Woodstock Elementary School. The second will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Crescent Park Elementary School in Bethel. All girls in grades kindergarten to 12 are invited.

Society speaker

BETHEL – The 38th annual meeting of the Bethel Historical Society will begin with a chicken barbecue at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the society’s Regional History Center on Broad Street. The meeting will follow at 7:30. Reports will be heard, including that of the nominating committee.

The 17th annual Marjorie MacArthur Noll Volunteer Service Award will also be presented to an outstanding volunteer.

Speaker will long-time society member Richard Fraser, who with his wife produced the book, “Maine-made Automobiles.” He will speak on that topic as part of the 2003 Bethel Historical Society series focusing on the history of Maine transportation. This presentation is made possible in part by a grant from the New Century Community Program and the Maine Humanities Council.
