ORONO – Shaunessy Saucier broke a scoreless tie in the 16th minute on a breakaway goal.

She sidestepped the charging Fairfield goalie, driving the ball into the Stags’ cage for the only goal the University of Maine would need as the Black Bears handed Fairfield University a 2-0 setback in women’s field hockey acton Friday.

Jaye Lance registered the shutout, turning back three shots.

Rachel Hilgar added an insurance goal at 34:38 of the first half to account for the final score.
