1924 – 2003
PERU – Everett Joseph McPhee, 79, of Peru, died Friday, Sept. 5, at his home following a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Mexico, July 8, 1924, a son of Lawrence and Rose (Arsenault) McPhee and attended Mexico schools. He graduated from Mexico High School in 1942.
Mr. McPhee served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a navigator and a bombadier and attended advanced classes in Syracuse, Miami, and New Mexico while in the Air Force.
After his service to his country he worked at Oxford, Ethyl, and Boise Paper companies and retired in 1986 after 39 years of service. He was a 53-year member of the Rumford American Legion and volunteered and attended St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Rumford for many years.
Mr. McPhee will be sorely missed by many and will be remembered for the care, attention, and the many trips he made with his son, Robert who covered sports for the local newspapers.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Peru, whom he married in 1958; a daughter, Patricia Van Lieu; a son, Robert J. McPhee of Dixfield; a daughter-in-law, Sue McPhee of Dixfield; brothers, Arthur McPhee of Newport, R.I., and Joseph McPhee of Rumford; sister, Irene Newell of Mexico; granddaughters, Debra Van Lieu Sperry and her husband Ron of Connecticut, Danielle McPhee of Dixfield, Tammy Daigle of Rumford, and Alicia Welch of Dixfield; four great-granddaughters, Tanya and Kaitlynne Sperry of Connecticut, and Nicole and Carly Welch of Dixfield.
He was predeceased by two sons, John C. McPhee and Mark A. McPhee; three sisters, Eva Perry, Olive Comeau, and Dorothy Thereau; and a brother, Melvin McPhee.
