AUBURN – Sarah Caron drained the second of her two goals with 34:45 left in the second period on a crossing pass from Allison Gagnon to lift St. Dom’s to a 2-1 win over Lake Region in a season opener Saturday.

Emily Staszak turned back 12 shots to register the win.

The Lakers’ lone goal came as Brittany Lapsey converted a pass from Tricia Shorey with 6:16 left in the second half.

Lewiston 2, Waterville 2

LEWISTON – Lewiston and Waterville opened their girls’ soccer season with a 2-2 tie. The Blue Devils jumped out to a quick 2-0 first-half lead behind goals by Kelsey Varney and Laura Martel.

Waterville answered in the second half as Meghan Willette and Kelley Saucier found the back of the net to knot the score at 2-2.

Beth Melanson stopped 14 shots for the Blue Devils while Kelley Landry turned back 16 for the Purple Panthers.

Greenville 4, Richmond 1

GREENVILLE – Hannah Britton scored a hat trick to propel Greenville to a 4-1 win over Richmond in EWC soccer action Saturday.

Kristin Sutherland rounded out the scoring with a second-half goal. Beth Bartley made seven saves to record the victory.

Becky Coonradt tallied the lone goal for Richmond.

Oxford Hills 2, Skowhegan 1

WALES-Five minutes into the game, a slotted ball by Steph Pirrainen gave room to Annie Foster to creep in and smash Oxford Hill’s to a 1-0 lead. Both Pierrainen and Foster led Oxford Hills to their eventual 2-1 win over Skowhegan.

Skowhegan’s Kayla Thompson eyed a corner kick and pulverized it in the net accounting for Skowhegan’s only goal of the game.

Yarmouth 2, Poland 0

YARMOUTH-Shannon Gilbert scored both goals early in the first half as Yarmouth cruised to a 2-0 victory over Poland Saturday. Gilbert was assisted on one goal by Stephanie Wittacker.

Field hockey

Belfast 10, Oak Hills 2

WALES-Belfast’s Brittany Cummings scored a hat trick as Belfast cruised to 10-2 victory over Oak Hill Saturday afternoon.

Cummings also had two assists.

Kaylene Annis punched in two goals and collected three assists for Belfast.

For Oak Hill’s effort, Jill Lizotte netted a goal with help from her sister, Julie, late in the first half.
