In response to the Sun Journal article headlined “Why are gas prices so high?” (Aug. 29), Sen. Susan Collins should have started at the top for answers. The president and vice president are both ex-oilmen with the mind-set that energy prices have been too low, and that higher prices will conserve energy. Profits in the energy sector will increase and everyone’s happy.

That’s called greed – a few fat cats get fatter. If you believe that market philosophy, then you probably believe that Enron and WorldCom will fund all their ex-workers’ pension accounts.
