First, I will say I am neither for or against the proposed casino business that will be coming up for vote in November, but as has been the case in many other localities, many will vote on the basis that income from this venture will be of benefit to education.
Voters need to know that as soon as this income starts to kick into the educational coffers, the state funds will probably be reduced, so in the long run, education funding will not be any richer than it was before. The thing to really watch is what the state House is doing at budget time and the wording of the bill that will be voted on.
