Casino: yes or no? On TV, I hear this question, “We don’t have any taxpayer’s money going into it, I mean, why wouldn’t you want it?” They say, “Think of all the jobs it will create.” They say it will bring in millions. Where will the millions come from?

A young man works at odd jobs, such as delivering papers or raking yards, saving for college. Then he tries the casino games, becomes obsessed with them, loses all his money – no college, no happy future. He’s addicted.

A young family dreams of owning their won home. Both work, saving for their dream house. Then the casino comes to Maine. They decide to try to get rich quick. Soon, all they think of is gambling. They’re hooked. No dream home, children neglected and in want.

Multiply these events by hundreds and you’ll see why I say “no” to a casino and slot machines.

Gambling is addictive. It will cause broken lives, broken dreams and broken homes. Is that what you want for Maine? Think about it.

Now, Maine is known as Vacation Land. People enjoy our beautiful lakes and beaches, enjoy camping, swimming, fishing and skiing. Let’s keep it that way.
