1926 – 2003

TURNER – Laurence P. Gagne, 76, passed away Sept. 12, surrounded by his family, after a brave battle with cancer.

He was born in Greene, Dec. 28, 1926, son of Wilfred J. and Annie Rose Gagne. He attended schools in Greene, and graduated from Leavitt Institute in 1944, and attended classes at University of Maine, Portland.

He married Laurel Fish Dec. 19, 1947 in Greene.

He was employed throughout his lifetime with the Town of Turner; Auburn Motor Sales; A C Electric; International Paper Co. as a millwright; and Ricker Orchards.

He was a member of Turner Fire Department for 42 years, serving as Chief for 19 years; Director of FEMA; Forestry Warden for over 30 years; he was instrumental in starting Turner Rescue in 1977 where he served as an EMT and Dispatcher, retiring in August due to ill health.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years; brothers, Wallace Gagne of Greene, Russell Gagne of Orlando Fla., and Raymond Gagne of Londonderry, N.H.; children, Cheryl and husband Robert Burgess of Lisbon Falls, Vaughn and his wife Vaughan Gagne of East Dixfield, Methyl and her husband Raymond Nolan of Lillian, Ala., and Ross Gagne of Turner; grandchildren, Love and her husband Eric Barkhurst of Mechanic Falls, SSgt. Aaron L. Gagne of Kadena, Japan, Kelly Nolan of Pensacola, Fla., and Amanda and her husband Charles Hebert of Greene; great-grandchildren, Sunshine and Bear Barkhurst, Charles Jr. and Brooke Hebert and Matthew Gagne; and a very special friend, Winfield Coleman.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Francis Gagne; and faithful companions, “Jessie and Micki.’
