WILTON – Town Manager Peter Nielsen will give Selectmen estimates for what it would cost for the town’s Recreation Committee to mow the town cemeteries when they meet Tuesday. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town office.

Last month a public hearing was held to discuss mowing at Lakeview Cemetery. Citizens complained that flowers and other items they placed on graves were destroyed or removed.

Selectmen decided to remove a section in the cemetery policy that states that all temporary wreaths, artificial flowers and decorations be removed within three weeks of holidays by the person who placed them there or be discarded by cemetery personnel. Now all decorations and flowers can stay until Nov. 1.

At their last meeting officials asked Nielsen to determine how much it would cost to have the Recreation Committee mow the town’s cemeteries. Nielsen agreed to research how many people and hours it would take and what equipment would be needed.

While officials have no real intention of asking the recreation committee to mow the cemetery, some residents suggested the idea during the public hearing. Officials agreed they should research the idea for future discussion. Recreation Director Frank Donald said he feels the job should be delegated to the town’s highway crew as it was in the past.

In other business, officials will hear a quarterly report from the highway department and a report on the Citizens Planning Committee. They will discuss plans for recycling computers and televisions at the town’s transfer station and review, amend or approve bid specifications for harvesting wood on the Old Guy Chandler Road. The town owns the property.

Officials will select a voting delegate to the Maine Municipal Association annual business meeting.

They will also select two Wilton representatives to the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments General Assembly.
