LEWISTON – A man was hospitalized in critical condition following a motorcycle-vehicle collision Saturday night.

Police Lt. Michael McGonagle said the man was driving a 2002 Harley-Davidson east down Cedar Street when a woman driving a 1994 Volkswagen Jetta approached driving west. The car stopped and turned left onto Oxford Street, striking the motorcycle as it passed by.

The accident occurred at 9:55 p.m. The driver of the car said she didn’t see the motorcycle, McGonagle said. She was not injured.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, received injuries to his head, chest, hips and legs, McGonagle said. Police are not releasing his identity, pending notification of the man’s family.

He remained in critical condition Sunday night at Central Maine Medical Center.

Both vehicles were totaled. The accident is under investigation.
