Dear Sun Spots: I am providing the following recipe as per the Sept. 11 column.

Woolworth’s Apple Dumplings with Vanilla Sauce. Dumpling Ingredients: 16 puff pastry squares, 16 medium size apples, peeled and cored, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Method: Cut 5-by-5 inch squares from puff pastry. Place 1 apple in center of each square. Combine sugar and cinnamon together. Place 1/2 ounce into apple. Pull dough to top of apple. Pinch dough together. Place on lightly greased cookie pan. Brush with egg wash. Bake 380-400 degree oven until apples are tender (about 20-30 minutes). Vanilla Custard Sauce Ingredients: 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix (4 ounces), 8 ounces of cold milk, 3 cups milk, 2 ounces of raisins, teaspoon vanilla. Method: Dissolve pudding mix in 8 ounces of cold milk. Heat 3 cups milk to 185 degrees. Add the pudding mix. Cool and stir until thick (about 8 minutes). Add raisins and vanilla.

Dear Sun Spots: For M.E. Rumford: Calcium Chloride works very well on removing both moisture and odor from basements. Suspend bags of chloride over a 5-gallon pail. I use a square of fabric, fill with a couple cups of chloride, tie a knot in the square and place a stick through the open part under the knot. Lay the stick on the top of bucket, and it is amazing the amount of moisture that will be collected in the pail. It will take a few days to see the change. Keep the pails around, and as the chloride disappears, fill with more.

For the lady who wanted the child’s hat pattern with an animal’s face on the back. I have located one that I believe is what she wanted. Sorry, but I do not have her name. I can be reached at (207) 824-2419. – Julie Daye, Newry.
