RUMFORD – The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the conference room of the municipal building. A short program on the hist ory of the Fryeburg Fair will be presented. Dues for the year 2003-2004 will be payable at this time. Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited.

Help for Halloween

DIXFIELD – The town is seeking someone to chair Dixfield’s Halloween Walk, sponsored by the Bicentennial Committee and scheduled Friday, Oct. 31. People can contact the Town Office at 562-8151, for further information. Without a chairperson for this popular event, the Halloween Walk will not be held this year, according to the town.

Garden dedicated

BETHEL – The U.S. Forest Service invites flower lovers to help dedicate the new wildflower garden at the Evans Notch Visitor Center on Route 2. The ceremony will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16.

The garden was planned and planted by a group of community volunteers including the Oxford County Extension, Bethel Master Gardeners and the Bethel Conservation Commission, who also continue to tend the garden. The garden will be part of an overall nature interpretive experience planned for the visitor center.

Stories for preschoolers

RUMFORD – Area youngsters ages 2-5 are invited to attend preschool story time at the Rumford Public Library, beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. Children will be able to enjoy stories, songs and finger plays, and to make crafts when appropriate to the story time theme. This is an opportunity for parents to have their children meet and interact with other preschoolers. Story times will not be held during school vacations or in the event of SAD 43 school cancellations.
