LIVERMORE FALLS – Police arrested a 16-year-old Jay boy Thursday after he allegedly stole two, 12-packs of beer from Cumberland Farms. But the theft charge he faced for that incident escalated to several charges after his arrest.
After allegedly running out of the store with the beer, the teen took off on his bicycle and crashed his bike just over the bridge in Livermore, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.
Lt. Thomas Gould and officer Moe Drouin caught up with the “highly intoxicated” boy as he was trying to pick up loose beer cans rolling around in the street, the chief said.
The boy who was on probation for a previous incident, allegedly resisted arrest and was taken back to the station and put in a cell, Steward said.
The teen allegedly gave a false name and attempted to destroy the cell, he said.
He was apparently trying to break the toilet, Steward said, and was out of control to the point police had to use pepper spray to calm him down to get him under control.
The boy was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston to be checked and then taken to Androscoggin County Jail, the chief said. He was later transported to a youth detention center in South Portland.
Police charged the teen with theft, criminal mischief, criminal threatening, resisting arrest and giving a false name to police, Steward said.
