1907 – 2003

WATERVILLE – Sister Saint John of the Cross (Anita) Morin, 95, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home. She was in the 77th year of her religious profession.

Sister Morin was born Nov. 2, 1907, in Lewiston the daughter of Napoleon and Cora (Anger) Morin. At the early age of 15, she entered the Ursuline Novitiate in Waterville, where she made her first profession on July 23, 1926. After her initial formation in religious life, Sister began her long teaching career.

Teaching the little ones was her delight and for many years she taught them in Sanford, Waterville, Lewiston and Brunswick, spending over 30 years at St. John’s in Brunswick. Sister was also an accomplished musician, and used her talent to direct children’s choir, teach piano lessons and play the organ for Church services.

Sister had a very special love for St. Therese of the Child Jesus. After her retirement from teaching, she made it her second career to propagate devotion to the Saint.

Survivors include her Religious Community; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Alice Morin of Billings, Mont.; a nephew and several nieces from Wyoming, So. Dakota, and Washington State; and several cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Robert.
