LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen were informed Monday that the district court area on the upper floor of the municipal building needs to meet federal laws for handicap access.

In a letter to the board, Court Administrator James T. Glessner outlined several deficiencies in the space, which the court rents from the town for $2,333 a month. The town must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Glessner estimates that will cost an estimated $35,250.

Among the needs are accessible parking, a better ramp with new handrails, a better main entrance door, signs, a lower service window and counter, a lower coat rack and lower fire extinguishers. Bathroom improvements are also needed.

The plan also calls for accessible spectator seating in the courtroom, wheelchair access to the jury box and witness stand, and an in-house, portable, assistive listening system.

The board will discuss the situation at its next meeting.

In other business, the board was told that the truck used by the town’s custodian would need considerable work to pass inspection.

A grand opening for the skate park is planned from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Sept. 30, Town Clerk Kristal Jacques said.

The board also met with Dispatch Committee members Maxine Bailey, Kevin Morrissey and Tom DuBois to discuss the scope of their work. Also working with them will be Palmer Hebert, who was unable to attend Monday, Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr., Fire Chief Ken Jones, road Foreman Denis Castonguay and Sewer Superintendent Kent Mitchell.

They will hold their first meeting at 5 p.m. Sept. 29 to elect a chairman and outline their duties. They and the board agreed that they are to gather facts and figures on maintaining local dispatch or having it provided by another entity.
