FARMINGTON – Members of the Wilton Fire Department will be honored this weekend by Unicel during its first Hometown Heroes program.

The community awareness celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Unicel store at 642 Wilton Road. There will be at least one firetruck present. Additionally, Unicel stores in New England will donate almost $4,000 to local fire departments.

Through speaking engagements and various fund-raisers, Wilton firefighters raised several thousand dollars within a year to purchase up-to-date equipment, such as a $25,000 thermal imaging camera that detects people or hot spots in a smoke-filled room.
