ANDOVER – The public is invited to learn the facts behind Robert Spidell’s new book, “The Pynelis Journals,” at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Andover Public Library. Spidell will give a 30-minute presentation on the inside story of the journals, which tell the story of how a prominent Boston family came to love their summer home in Andover. French film

RUMFORD – The Acadian Society has chosen to show the Ben Levine documentary film, “Reveil – Waking Up French,” as a community outreach project. The film explores the struggle for cultural survival among the French-Canadian and Acadian communities and traces the French heritage beginning with immigration from the Canadian provinces. The film will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Mountain Valley Middle School Auditorium. The public is invited and there is no charge.

Parenting series

PARIS – Parenting through separation or divorce is the topic of a free workshop series offered by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Oxford County. Participants must preregister by Thursday, Oct. 2. The course will focus on understanding the effects of separation/divorce, helping children, moving from conflict to cooperation, and communicating effectively. The four-part series will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 2, 9, 16 and 23 at the Extension Office on Olson Road.
