Henry Phillips could face up to

five years in jail.

FARMINGTON – A Rangeley man admitted Friday in a Farmington court to standing a young girl on a milk crate and simulating having sex with her.

Henry Phillips, 53, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual contact. Justice Joseph Jabar ordered him held until the sentencing, which is pending a forensic investigation.

The incident happened in late August 1999 when Phillips told his friends he would take their 10-year-old girl and her three brothers swimming, as he did often.

But instead of going swimming, Phillips took the children to his Rangeley home and told the boys to go play outside while he took the girl into his bedroom, Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson said. Phillips told the girl to stand on a milk crate while he simulated having sex with her, Robinson said.

Afterward, Phillips told the victim that if she let him do this to her every day, he would give her $100 to take to the fair, which was several weeks away, Robinson said.

He then asked her to remove clothing, which she refused to do, sitting down on the floor and crying. Then Phillips told the girl that she should never disclose what had just transpired, or they would be in big trouble, Robinson said.

The unlawful contact came to light four years later when the girl, who was having emotional problems, told her mother what happened.

Phillips faces up to five years if convicted.
