PORTLAND (AP) – Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 27 shots on goal, leading the Pittsburgh Penguins past the Washington Capitals 2-1 Saturday in National Hockey League preseason exhibition play.

Colby Armstrong and Kris Beech scored for the Penguins, while Jeff Halpern tallied Washington’s lone goal.

After two scoreless periods, Armstrong notched the games first goal short-handed 42 seconds into the third period.

With Rico Fata benched for hooking at 20:00 of the second, Armstrong shot the puck past Washington goalie Olie Kolzig.

Beech connected from the left circle with 13:47 remaining, drilling the puck past Kolzig.

with assists from Aleksey Morozov and Reid Simpson.

Washington got on the scoreboard late in the period when Halpern beat Fleury at 17:21 with assists from Jaromir Jagr and Brenden Witt.

The Penguins improved their pre-season record to 2-3-1-0 with the victory, while the Capitals slipped to 2-3-0-0.
