LISBON FALLS – Nelson-Conley Post 66, American Legion, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Slovak Association meeting room, Avery Street. All eligible veterans are invited.

Seniors session

AUBURN – First Auburn Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Hasty Community Center, Pettengill Park. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m.

There will be a pot of gold drawing but no raffle. Members may take nonperishable items for the Oct. 18 fall fair. Tickets for the Oct. 15 Halloween party will be available. Bingo will be played after a bag lunch.

A meeting was held on Sept. 17 at the American Legion hall with 72 attending. Trip Chairwoman Joyce Poole announced trips including Radio Daze, Nov. 11; a mystery trip, Oct. 26; and the New Year’s Extravaganza, Dec. 30 and Jan. 1. Loretta Martin listed trips the Auburn Recreation Department is offering. For more information call 784-0191.

Attendance prizes were won by Midge Demers and Beverly Lashua; pot of gold, June Ellery, Guy Donahue and Bernice Parks. Members played bingo after lunch.

Grange to install

NEW GLOUCESTER – Androscoggin Pomona will meet for installation of officers Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Sabbathday Lake Grange. Vernon Dunn, deputy master of Maine State Grange, will be the installing officer. The host grange will serve supper at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7:30.

Alzheimer’s video

AUBURN – The Auburn Alzheimer’s Support Group will present a video when it meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Clover Health Care, Minot Avenue. New members are welcome. The session will open with a video, “A Prescription for Caregivers: Take Care of Yourself.” All caregivers and family members are invited. Rotary program

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club will meet at noon Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Ramada Inn. The program will be on Project Amigo, a Rotary International World Community Service site in Colima, Mexico. The speakers will be Susan and Ted Hill.

Anyone interested in the topic or in knowing more about Rotary is invited to attend. Luncheon cost is $7.

Hymn sing

AUBURN – The Marston’s Corner Baptist Church will hold an area-wide hymn sing and potluck supper at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. All are invited; a freewill offering will be accepted to help toward the roof project. For further information, contact Pastor Primm at 783-4548.

Rosary Sodality

LEWISTON – The Rosary Sodality will celebrate Eucharist as a body at the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Oct. 5, with coffee and doughnuts in the Msgr. Gleason Hall following the Mass for Sodalists and their families.

Sodalists will also celebrate their 70th anniversary on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at a banquet at Martindale Country Club in Auburn.

Blessing of animals

WINTHROP – The Blessing of the Animals will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Winthrop Center Friends Church, Route 135 South. Those wishing can bring their animals for the special service of blessing and appreciation. Dogs should be on leashes and cats and other small pets in carriers.

Paws for cause

BRUNSWICK – The Coastal Humane Society will conduct a Paws for a Cause Dog Walk at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, on the trails of Crystal Spring Farm, rain or shine. There will be agility demonstrations, food, pet photographer and prizes. All proceeds will go to the society. Preregistration is required. Call 725-5051 for information.

Bridge winners

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Sept. 23 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Randy Silver and Marguerite Zahoruiko; second, Mike Quinn and Luke Merry; third, Jane Fournier and Gayle Quattrocci; fourth, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau. Flight B winners were: first, Jane Fournier and Gayle Quattrocci; second, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau.

East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Connie Reynolds and Maude Abbott; third, Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron; fourth, David Lock and Patricia Garcia. Flight B winners were: first, Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron; second, Don Johnson and Rowena Palmer.

The club championship game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the center. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met on Sept. 24 at Schooner Estates. Winners of the club championship in Flight A were: first, Mike Quinn and Leslie Buzzell; second, Jim Flanagan and Bill Adams; third, David Lock and Jeanine Kivus; fourth, Martine Begert and Patricia Garcia; fifth, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons. Flight B winners were Jim Flanagan and Bill Adams.
