RUMFORD – Investigations are continuing into two burglaries reported last week at apartments on Penobscot and Falmouth streets.

Officer Paul Casey is investigating both incidents, the first of which occurred sometime between noon and 2 p.m. on Sept. 23 at a Penobscot Street residence.

In that case, someone stole prescription medication valued at $220 without forcing their way inside, said officer David Bean. Casey has a suspect in the case.

The other incident occurred sometime between the night of Sept. 23 and morning of Sept. 24 at a Falmouth Street apartment. There, someone stole a $150 air compressor from the resident’s porch. There were no suspects as of Monday afternoon.

In other police news, a man who initially reported to police that a woman he knew was allegedly driving while impaired, ended up being arrested himself once police arrived to investigate, Bean said.

Erik Perry, 32, of Dixfield was charged Friday with domestic assault and criminal mischief by officer Peter Casey at a Free Street residence. Perry was released on bail.

The woman whom Perry reported, Lorin Richards, 30, of Rumford was also arrested by Peter Casey and charged with domestic assault, disorderly conduct and operating after suspension. She failed to post $700 cash bail and was transported to Oxford County Jail.

“There was a dispute between Richards and Perry and a motor vehicle complaint was filed initially, but they were both arrested for assaulting one another,” Bean said.

Both Richards and Perry are to be arraigned in Rumford District Court ono Nov. 4.

A Rumford woman who was arrested Thursday and charged with illegal attachment of plates, had another encounter with police Sunday, albeit as a dog bite victim.

Barbara Donahue, 33, was bitten by a dog while walking along Maine Avenue between 5 and 5:15 p.m., Bean said. She was treated and released at Rumford Hospital and the matter was referred to Rumford’s animal control officer, Marsha McKenna, Bean added.

A Rumford man, Norman Johnson, 32, was summoned by officer Peter Casey on a charge of assault Saturday after police responded to a fight in progress on Hancock Street.

Like Donahue, Johnson is slated to be arraigned on Nov. 4 in Rumford District Court.
