SOUTH PORTLAND – The season of marching band shows, sponsored by the Maine Band Directors Association, continued at South Portland High School on Sept. 27. Seven bands from southern Maine performed.
The association continues a rating system that evaluates the bands in several areas of performance. The system promotes excellence of performance in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. Bands are rewarded with star ratings from one to four in each evaluated area based on the consistency of their achievement of a high level of performance.
Bands receiving overall ratings of one star were Edward Little, Lewiston, Marshwood and Sanford high schools. Edward Little High School received two stars for drum major, percussion and music. Lewiston High School received two stars for drum major and music and Marshwood High School received two stars for drum major and percussion.
Bands receiving overall ratings of two stars were Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach and South Portland high schools. South Portland High School received three stars for drum major, percussion and music. Old Orchard Beach High School also received three stars for drum major.
Lawrence High School will host Edward Little, Leavitt, Lewiston, Old Orchard Beach and South Portland high schools at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. Admission for regular season events is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens.
