For the second straight game, the Lewiston Maineiacs needed a two-goal comeback to force overtime.

This time, despite what coach Mario Durocher called the team’s “worst game of the season,” they finished what they started.

Pierre-Luc Faubert scored midway through overtime with assists from Mathieu Aubin and Francis Trudel as the Maineiacs extended their unbeaten streak to three games with a 4-3 overtime win over Baie-Comeau Thursday night.

Both of Lewiston’s wins have come against division rival Drakkar, and both in the last six days.

“I think we were lucky to get two points tonight,” said Durocher. “They were important points in the division, but we need to play better than this if we want to keep winning.”

The assist on the winning goal capped a big night for Trudel, who had the game-tying goal at 4:02 of the third period on a slap shot from the point during a power play. The goal was the first power-play goal in the last 18 tries for the Maineiacs, and the first of the season for Trudel.

“The guys we had out there for the power play weren’t the veterans,” said Durocher. “The rookies are the players getting the job done. If they are the skaters that want to work hard, that’s who will play.”

Jonathan Paiement, who scored the first goal of the night for Lewiston, and Alexandre Picard had the other two goals, while Travis Antler notched two for the Drakkar.

As a team, Lewiston allowed 29 shots on goal, its highest total of the season. Matt Davis managed 27 saves, but only nine of those came in the third period and one in overtime as Lewiston’s defense regained its stingy form.

“Most of the shots again came from the perimeter,” said Durocher. “Matt (Davis) came up with the big saves when he needed to. That’s how we won this game.”

Travis Antler of the Drakkar converted a pass from Alexandre Blais to give the home team the edge just 2:25 into the game, and at 4:36, with his team coming off of a two-minute power play, Antler again put the puck by Matt Davis on a pass from Jean-Franois Jacques for a 2-0 lead.

Four minutes later, Lewiston defenseman Jonathan Paiement took a pass from Gabriel Balasescu on a shorthanded break and slammed the puck past Drakkar goaltender Loc Lacasse to pull the Maineiacs back to within one at 2-1.

Baie-Comeau again extended its lead in the second frame with a goal off the stick of Michael Lukac.

Picard converted his eighth of the season with assists from Alex Bourret and Maxime Robert at 17:51 of the second period to once again cut the deficit to one.
