INDUSTRY – Sunday School classes for age 4 through grade 6 will begin at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at Shorey Chapel. The church’s youth group for junior and senior high students will combine with the group from New Sharon Congregational Church. A meeting to plan for the youth group will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the New Sharon church’s vestry.

FARMINGTON – Maine Lodge No. 20 will have a stated meeting on Monday, Oct. 6, at the lodge on Main Street. There will be a 6:30 p.m. supper prior to the stated meeting in the Master Mason Degree on one candidate. All Master Masons are invited to attend.

FARMINGTON – The Extension Homemakers Board meeting will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the Municipal Building. The “Train the Trainer” courses will begin at 12:30 p.m. Anne Moody will lead a program on using culinary herbs and Megan Burns will lead one called “Food Mood Link.” There will be some taste testing but those participating are being reminded to bring their own bag lunch.

Blacksmiths meeting set

WILTON – The Western Maine Blacksmith’s Association will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Wilton Historical Society. Workers’ Compensation

FARMINGTON – The Franklin Memorial Hospital Occupational Health Department is hosting a panel discussion entitled, Navigating Workers’ Compensation Claims: Simplifying the Process for Employers. It will be held from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the Bass Room of the hospital’s new Ben Franklin Center.

The discussion will provide an introduction to compensation, as well as discussion on the paper trail, accident investigations, the primary care model, a therapist’s view, and outcomes. There will be ample time for questions and answers.

Any area employers with an interest in learning more about Workers Compensation are welcome to attend. The event is free and will include a light breakfast. For more information or to sign-up, contact Ellen Randall at 779-2586.

War impact film

FARMINGTON – A film, “First Kill,” that explores the psychology of war will be presented at no charge to the public at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in Room 217 of Ricker Addition at the University of Maine at Farmington. Coco Schrijber directed this film that asks, “What does war do to the human mind and soul?” Interviews with several Vietnam veterans evoke the contradictory feelings that killing produces. “First Kill” includes a discussion with Michael Herr, a former war correspondent who wrote the screenplays for “Apocalypse Now” and “Full Metal Jacket.” He also wrote, “Dispatches,” a book about the experiences of the combat soldier in the Vietnam War. This is part of a film series sponsored by the Western Mountains Peace Action Workshop. Donations will be accepted and discussion will follow the viewing.

Golf team benefit

JAY – The public can support the Jay High School golf team by participating in a Fall Fairways Golf Tournament and Silent Auction on Saturday, Oct. 18. The tournament, in scramble format, will be held at Maple Lanes Golf Course on River Road in Livermore. A prime rib dinner and awards to low gross and low net teams will follow the tournament. The $30 registration fee covers nine holes of golf and the dinner. People can register individually or as a team of four for the 2 p.m. shotgun start.
