BETHEL – Selectmen approved a loan of more than $600,000 to pay for a substantial sewer project when they met on Monday. They also gave the green light to a young man to begin work on an Eagle Scout project.

Town Manager Scott Cole said the board authorized borrowing $630,000 over 20 years at an estimated interest rate of 2.7 percent. The annual payment will be $40,000.

Residents approved the debt at an April 2002 special town meeting.

The sewer rehabilitation project, largely completed at the end of 2002 and officially finished in September of this year, covers work done on the Paradise/Evergreen Road.

The board also authorized Cole to work with Jason Howe who plans to coordinate and oversee a hedge-line planting project between the Parkway and the Davis Park Pathway.

Cole said Howe will plan the up to 300-foot hedge project this fall, including deciding what species to plant and lining up labor to complete the project.

The planting will be done in the spring.

In other matters, the board disbanded the 2003 Committee that had been formed in 1998 to help carry out the recommendations of the town’s Comprehensive Plan because its work is done.

They also approved a liquor license for Pat’s Pizza and a lodging house license for the Cameron House.

Following a closed session, the board voted to turn down an offer for the sale of an unnamed land parcel to the town. Cole declined to discuss details.
