AUBURN – Twin City Council 160, United Commercial Travelers of America, will hold annual visitation of grand officers on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston.

Grand Councilor Arthur Newcombe and his suite of officers will be honored. A reception will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. with dinner served at 7. Music will be provided by Vintage. On Friday evening, Oct. 17, out-of-town guests will be entertained at Marco’s for dinner.

Reservations must be made by Saturday, Oct. 11, by calling Douglas Larrabee at 345-9533 or Robert Blanchard at 783-9471.

Twin City Council will hold its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Odd Fellows Hall on Elm Street. A ham supper will follow.

Members and guests are welcome to attend all of the functions.

Anointing

AUBURN – The Sacrament of the Anointing will take place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Sacred Heart Church. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will be celebrated also.

Following the service, light refreshments will be served in the parish hall (downstairs). The church is wheelchair accessible, as is the parish hall by using the elevator.

The church is located at the corner of Minot and Western avenues with entrance to the parking lot off Western Avenue. All are invited.

Section Martel

LEWISTON – Section Martel of Association Canado-Americaine will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13.

Members who want SeniorPlus meals at 12:30 will be provided transportation to Auburn. Social games will be held after the meeting.

Driving course

LEWISTON – A Maine Driving Dynamics course will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 14 and 16, at Lewiston High School.

Instructor Fred Thompson said those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. Classes fill quickly or may be canceled due to small class size, therefore call for more information as soon as possible. First night registration will be held at 6 p.m. at 156 East Ave.

The course covers crash-avoidance techniques, classroom discussion and lectures. The course, open to the public, is sponsored by Lewiston Adult Education and the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.

Harvest dinner

AUBURN – The New Auburn Senior Citizens will have a harvest dinner at noon Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the St. Louis Church basement. Cost is $3 for members only. There will also be a sign-up sheet that day for members who want to go to Julien’s for lunch on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

The regular meeting was held Oct. 1 with Virginia Levasseur, president, presiding. October birthdays were noted and small gifts given.

Pot of gold winners were Germaine Bilodeau, Wallace Doucette, Joanne Lewis and Jeannette Parisi. The meeting adjourned, and a light lunch and bingo followed.

Garden program

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Falls Community Library and the Androscoggin County Cooperative Extension Office will present a free program, “Putting Gardens to Bed,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Lisbon Falls Library.

Master gardener Elizabeth Kreigh will explain how to prepare vegetable and flower gardens for the winter. Topics will include fall maintenance, garden cleanup, soil testing, fertilizing, garden edging and fall bulbs.

A minimum of 10 participants are needed. To register, call the Lisbon Falls Library at 353-6564.

LEWISTON – Lewiston Emblem Club 528 will hold its annual card party at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, to raise money for scholarships and local charities.

The event will be held at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, Lisbon Street. Tickets, $3 each, will be available at the door.

Raffles will be held throughout the event. Proceeds will event support the Lewiston Emblem Scholarship Fund and charities.

The club is a part of the Supreme Emblem Clubs of America and is affiliated with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Boston trip

TURNER – Those wishing to spend a day holiday shopping in Boston can sign up for a day trip to Boston on Saturday, Nov. 22, sponsored by SAD 52 River Valley Adult and Community Education.

The Maine Line charter bus will leave Turner Elementary School at 7:30 a.m. and will pick up riders at 8 a.m. at Exit 12 in Auburn.

Participants will spend a day at Quincy Market or venture to other areas of interest in the city. Trip minimum is 40 people and maximum is 47. Call the Adult Learning Center at 225-3478 to register or for information.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners of the special club appreciation game at the Multi-Purpose Center on Oct. 6 were: N/S, first, Helen Little and George Vogt, first overall; second, Anna Vitiello and Roger Briggs, second overall; third, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; first in B, Shirley Banks and Alice Holt.
