The Bobcats’ Catherine Crosby and Kim Alexander kick in first-half goals.

BIDDEFORD – Bates College got first-half goals from senior Catherine Crosby who scored on a penalty kick. Freshman Kim Alexander scored on a pass from Jessie Gargiulo as the Bobcats beat the University of New England, 2-0, in women’s soccer Wednesday.

UNE goalie Amanda Brown made 10 saves. Bates improves its record to (5-2-1).

Bowdoin 5, USM 0

BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin College (7-2) had five different goal scorers in its 5-0 shutout victory over the University of Southern Maine Wednesday.

Hillary Smith, Christine Goss, Michael Shapiro, Jill Falwell and Ivy Blackmore all scored goals for the Huskies.

USM’s goalie Marcy Ansley had three saves in the losing effort as the Huskies fall to (4-6-1).

UMF 1, Lyndon State 1

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Autumn Hill scored a goal on Lyndon State’s first shot of the game, but Jodie Welch brought the University of Maine at Farmington right back into contention with a second period goal.

And the teams ended up playing to a 1-1 tie in women’s soccer Wednesday.

Lindsey MaGuire made two saves in net for Lyndon, while Patty Boutin turned away one for the Beavers.

Field hockey

Husson 3, St. Joe’s 1

STANDISH – Amanda Brown netted a pair of goals to lead Husson to a 3-1 win over St. Joesph’s in collegiate field hockey action Wednesday.

Tricia Hamm added an insurance goal for Husson at 45:10 with help from Linsday Coate. Jamie Giles needed only three saves to notch the win.

Davan Clawson scored the lone goal for the Monks (3-9) at the 3:55 mark of the first half.

Jessica LaFlamme made seven saves in the loss.

Bates 3, UMF 0

LEWISTON – Sarah Overmyer scored twice to help Bates College (1-7) in its 3-0 field hockey shutout of the University of Maine at Farmington Wednesday. Brooke Anable scored the other goal for the Bobcats.

UMF (6-4) only had two shots on goal the entire game.

Ashleigh Biette did her best to keep the Beavers in the game with six saves.

Fall baseball

CMCC 12, Vermont Tech 2

RANDOLPH, Vt. – Nate Olsen went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to pace Central Maine Community College to a 12-2 romp over Vermont Technical College in fall baseball action Wednesday.

Greg Hird went 3-for-3 for Central Maine, adding four RBIs to the final tally. Mike Sprow gave up just two hits while earning the win.

Joe Courtemache handled pitching duties for Vermont and took the loss.

In the nightcap, CMCC stepped up to the plate again and handed the Vermonters an 8-3 loss.

Dustin Longchamp was on the mound and earned his third win of the season. Nate Olsen had the hot bat again in Game 2, ripping two home runs and posting three RBIs.

Ryan Beisaw and Cory Ouellette recorded two hits each in the win.
