GENEVA, Ala. – Joyce E. Gallop Longley, 67, a resident of Geneva, Ala., died Tuesday morning, Oct. 7, at the Greenplace Assisted Living Center. Born in Rumford, May 23, 1936, she was the daughter of Richard A. and Evelyn A. Young Gallop

She was educated in the schools of Mexico and attended the University of Maine in Augusta and took various classes with an emphasis on business and accounting. On May 23, 1953, she married Edwin Longley Jr. of Mexico. They resided in Rome, Ga., until 1965, when they moved to Leeds.

She was employed in the nursing department of Augusta General Hospital from 1970 to 1974. She and her husband owned and operated Riverbend Campground in Leeds from 1971 to 1986. She was also employed as a tax preparer for nine years for H & R Block in Lewiston. In 1987, she was employed by the State of Maine, retiring in 1994.

After retirement they began spending their winters in Mims, Fla. Mr. Longley passed away on May 11, 2002. In August of 2002, she moved to Geneva, Ala., to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen J. Longley of Edenton, N.C., and Cynthia J. Hill and her husband Judah of Geneva, Ala.; two sons, E. Andrew Longley of Leeds and Michael J. Longley and his wife Angela of Livermore Falls; two brothers, Richard H. Gallop and his wife Judy of Monmouth and Benjamin J. Gallop and his wife Mary of Barnsville, Ga.; a half brother, Jarvis N. Gallop of Evadale, Texas; six grandchildren, Staci J. Gibson, K. William Chandler, Jessica Perron McCarthy, Kevin Perron, Nicole A. Longley and Lauren R. Tremblay; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Longley – Died in Geneva, Alabama, Oct. 7, 2003, Joyce E. Gallop Longley, age 67 of Geneva, Ala. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the BRAGDON-FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 707 Main St., Monmouth. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Interment Leeds Center Cemetery in Leeds.
